The guide is your introduction to the freebie world, and will help you to make your journey into freebie land as easy and as fun as possible. get more freebies first time, every time, all you have to do is follow our helpful pointers, and it should be as painless as possible.

Why give stuff away?
Companies often give away freebies for many reasons, these include: product trials and testing; to promote the company or product; and the most common one by far, is to gather consumer information for further marketing purposes. However, because your information is incredibly valuable to these companies, they will do everything they can to fully utilise it, they may even sell it, and this could result in an awful lot of "spam" email and junk post, even unwanted fax and telephone calls! if you want to know more about preventing companies contacting you without permission, check out the email and junk mail sections of this guide.

Set up a Second Email address!
As mentioned above, when you apply for freebies the companies will often email you on a regular basis, and while most of them won't do anything like sell your address, after a number of applications for freebies, the amount of email you will regularly received will increase. While the first option is to unsubscribe from them, and many give you an option for them not to send you any more email, setting up a second email account to apply to freebies with is always a good idea.

Why haven't I got my Freebie!?
Getting the freebies you apply for is baring on being a scientific art! Due to the massive demand many companies face, and even the big ones can't cope at times, they have learnt to deploy certain tactics to give away as few freebies as possible. The good thing is we have learnt how they work! When a freebie is initially listed at Freebiers Club UK many thousands of people apply for it, and while this is a wise tactic for limited freebies, it is not so wise for those that are going to stick around for a while. You see when companies get large increases in demand, some of them will simply delete a large number of those applications, in the knowledge that they know they have come from a freebie site. In our experience the best thing to do is apply a few days after the listing, or even as much as a week, and many of the freebies listed throughout the site remain valid simply because they can cope with the steady daily demand on them, rather than the massive flood that many companies hate.

It's been over a month - where is my Freebie??
We often get emails informing us that freebies haven't been received after a month of applying for them. But the truth of the matter is that many freebies take up to 3 months to arrive, and when under great demand it's little wonder why companies take so long! The key to freebie hunting is being patient! However if you're still waiting after a month, it may be worth applying again, especially when you know other people have received theirs in less time. But be warned - if you apply again you may risk being banned from their list, and you'll never get your freebie!

Okay I've got my Freebie - Shall I reorder?
Being greedy is not always a good thing! If it's a limited freebie give someone else a chance to get theirs, if it's not, reapplying to get some more can be deadly. As mentioned before trying to get more than your fair share can get on the companies banned list, and though there are many companies that simply don't have such a monitoring system, a familiar name or address often does not go by unnoticed - annoy the wrong people and everyone could lose out. In brief - if they say 1 per household don't push your luck, if it's limited apply just once. Remember if you play fair you can't get your fingers burnt!

They won't leave me alone - how do I stop them?

First of all when you applied for a freebie, if you didn't want to have them harass you, simply check (or uncheck) the boxes that state that you want them to contact you. If you've done this and they are still bugging you, and you would rather they didn't, there is something you can do.

There are several useful services for keeping the junkers off our backs, some require action by the recipient. Basically, the MPS (mailing preference service), FPS (fax ditto) and the TPS (telephone ditto) arrange for your name to go on a list which should not receive junk mail/faxes/tel calls. Companies should work from these lists, but sometimes do not. After a few weeks for your details to be distributed, any company making an unwanted approach is breaking the law. It is recommended that you notify the company that you are on the appropriate list and that you wish them to desist their actions. If they do not, then contact the appropriate preference service and they will take action from thereon. (Always keep a copy of anything you do, together with details of any conversations, contacts etc.)

You can contact the aforementioned agencies using the details below:

I ordered a trial magazine subscription - now they are asking me to pay!

Trial magazine subscriptions are run by many magazines, as it's a way for them to give you a chance of trying before you buy - however because they come with an invoice at the end of the trial period, many people are scared off from applying. Remember it's a trial - if you don't like what you see, or simply don't want to continue the subscription, you'll be given the chance to cancel many times.

Canceling can involve a phone call, but most of the time all you have to do is fill in a cancellation form or cross out an invoice with the words cancel, and return them to the company. Easy as that!
